Kentucky Mother-Son Duo Wins Record Powerball Jackpot
A mother-son duo from Georgetown, Kentucky, has emerged as the winners of the state’s largest Powerball jackpot, a staggering $167.3 million. James Shannon Farthing, a frequent visitor at Clark’s Pump N Shop, bought the winning ticket for the April 26 drawing. He learned about their life-changing fortune from his mother, Linda Grizzle, who called him with the news.
“I come in here all the time… somebody’s gotta win,” Farthing remarked after the win. The duo plans to use the prize to pay off debts, marking a significant change in their lives. They have the option to receive the full amount in 30 annual installments or a lump sum of $77.3 million, with both leaning toward wisely managing their newfound wealth with a financial advisor.
This win broke a 16-year drought for Powerball winners in Kentucky, which last saw a winning ticket in December 2010. Kentucky Lottery President Mary Harville expressed excitement over the state’s latest record-setting win, emphasizing the positive impact on the local community and retailer, who will receive a $37,000 reward for selling the winning ticket. The next Powerball drawing stands at an estimated $44 million.
