The University of Kentucky women’s golf team is gearing up to compete in the Southeastern Conference Women’s Golf Championship at The Pelican Golf Club in Tampa, Florida. The tournament will feature a 16-team field, with Kentucky teeing off on Monday alongside Alabama, Georgia, and Missouri. The course will play as a par 70 at 6,254 yards, and this marks the second consecutive year the SEC Championship will be held at The Pelican.
Kentucky’s lineup includes sophomore Cathryn Brown, freshmen Karlie Campbell and Anastasia Hekkonen, senior Marta López Echevarría, and sophomore Brooke Oberparleiter. Last season, Brown and López Echevarría helped UK earn fifth place in stroke play. This season’s SEC Championship will be the first to feature 16 teams, with the top eight advancing to match-play quarterfinals.
The Wildcats have shown strong performances this season, with a scoring average of 291.8. López Echevarría leads the team with a 72.9 scoring average, while Brown leads with nine rounds of par-or-better. The team is optimistic about their chances at the championship and are prepared for sunny skies and temperatures in the low-to-mid 80s in Tampa.
