In a continued crackdown on illegal betting, the Miyapur police have submitted a memo to the Kukatpally court requesting around 20 organisers to be added to the list of accused in the case. The memo requested that the organisers be listed along with the promoters, which previously only included celebrities. This development comes after several top actors and social media influencers were booked on March 19 for promoting betting apps and websites.
According to a Cyberabad police official, the case has been registered under several sections of the Telangana Gaming Act and the IT Act. The complainant, businessman PM Phanindra Sharma, reported seeing celebrities and influencers actively promoting illegal betting apps and websites on social media platforms like Instagram and Facebook.
The crackdown on illegal betting activities highlights the ongoing efforts of law enforcement agencies to tackle the issue of online gambling in the region. By expanding the list of accused to include organisers, the authorities are sending a strong message to those involved in promoting such activities. The case serves as a reminder that promoting illegal betting apps and websites is against the law and will not be tolerated.
