While some cities, like Wayland, have chosen to opt out of the program, patients who qualify for medical cannabis can still access it by visiting dispensaries in neighboring counties.
The Kentucky Office of Medical Cannabis emphasizes that cities and counties must adhere to state regulations and licenses when allowing medical cannabis businesses to operate. Due to a lottery system and limited licenses, not all areas that permit cannabis businesses are guaranteed a license.
