In a thrilling game between the Yankees and Dodgers, the score was tied 0-0 going into the fourth inning. Both teams had opportunities to score but weren’t able to capitalize on them. Dodgers pitcher Jack Flaherty and Yankees pitcher Gerrit Cole were locked in a pitcher’s duel.
In the bottom of the fourth, Betts hit a ball to shallow right field but Yankees first baseman Rizzo made a fantastic over the shoulder catch to rob him of a hit. In the top of the fifth, Torres grounded out to third and Flaherty continued his dominance on the mound.
In the bottom of the fifth, Hernandez hit a triple and then Will Smith followed with a sacrifice fly to give the Dodgers a 1-0 lead. The Yankees tried to respond in the top of the sixth, with Stanton hitting a two-run home run to give New York a 2-1 lead. This was Stanton’s second big hit of the game.
Cole was replaced after six innings, but the Yankees bullpen was able to hold on to the lead. The game ended with the Yankees defeating the Dodgers 2-1 in a closely contested match. Cole was dominant on the mound, while Stanton provided the offensive spark for the Yankees with his home run. This win puts the Yankees in a strong position in the World Series as they look to continue their winning streak.
