Less than two weeks before the election, Vice President Kamala Harris has not yet enlisted help on the campaign trail from former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, the only other woman to come close to the presidency. Harris’ campaign is focusing more on making inroads with specific voters, particularly men, and believes having Clinton on the trail at this moment may not be the most helpful move. However, Clinton is expected to do at least one event for Harris in the final week of the election. Clinton has endorsed Harris and headline fundraisers for her, but Harris does not speak about the “glass ceiling” on the campaign trail like Clinton did in 2016. Harris aims to present herself as a change candidate, separate from the history of Clinton’s campaign strategy. Clinton’s message during her book tour events is a warning to voters about a potential Trump return to the White House. While the Harris campaign sees Clinton as an asset, they acknowledge the need to focus more on the voter than the candidate itself. The campaign’s strategy is to emphasize freedom for the voter rather than the candidate, as seen in their approach to not extensively highlighting Harris’ potential as the first female president.
